Yesterday I sat down in my favorite chair and grabbed for this lap sized quilt. It was the PERFECT size to cover me from my chest to the tops of my feet! (Not to mention the extra snuggly factor with the AGF Highlands flannel on the back.)

I couldn’t help but remember my mother in-law in that moment. She got so frail the older she got and she would always complain about how cold she was but blankets and quilts were a tripping hazard near her recliner so she sometimes didn’t use them at all. “I would rather be cold than have a broken hip, Annie girl!” (Then she would turn her heat to 84 🤣)

Oh Janey, I wish I had today’s talent back in 2015. We could have solved one of your biggest frustrations 💜💙🩵

🐇 Can you spot the bunny?

This fabric collection by Maureen Cracknell is just stunning. It has a little bit of cutie patootie, a whole lot of color, and a softness to it that makes it perfect for a Hearty quilt. (And I have FQ Bundles in my shop!)

When I wrote this pattern, I wanted it to be a fun, playful way to use directional fabrics. Sometimes patterns use such tiny pieces that we lose some of the beautiful artwork on the fabric. FUN FACT: I actually changed the construction of these blocks after I made my initial mock ups because I wanted even *more* of the directional prints to show!

💜 Split Decision | Hearty includes 4 project sizes: table runner, lap, throw and bed.

💙The runner and lap use Fat Quarters - and - you can use Fat quarters in the larger quilts for a scrappy quilt. (To see a delightfully scrappy version, check out @itoldyousew)

Where are the die hard Ruby Star Society fans? My good friend Jenn falls into this category and seeing her affinity with RSS fabrics has encouraged me to think differently when I write patterns. I used Ruby Star Society Trinketry fabric for this yardage version of Hearty, but this pattern makes it easy to use ANY Ruby Star fabrics!

This Hearty quilt was really fun to make from yardage, but it’s also really fun to make from your scrap fabrics! It puts a whole new twist on an iSpy quilt!

I have included a couple charts in this pattern that will help you figure out exactly how many scraps you need to make GREAT use of your favorite scraps. And of course, Jen has already made a scrappy version… Because that’s just who she is! I can’t wait for you to see what @itoldyousew has been up to!

This size is fat quarter friendly, and you only need 10 fat quarters plus a background fabric to make a cheerful 46 x 57 inch quilt. It’s a great size for a baby quilt, a wall hanging, or the perfect quilt to tuck around your legs while you cozy up with a good book.

This version uses fabrics from the Starling collection by Maureen Cracknell for Art Gallery Fabrics, plus 1 Decostitch print and Ethereal Pink for the background.

It’s not too difficult to pull together beautifully paired fabrics for this quilt, but I’m curious what you think. Would it be helpful if I offered quilt kits for this version so the color coordinating is already done for you?

I have not been participating in #igquiltfest2026 but I did see that today’s prompt is about the “why” behind quilting. My “why” is all about the heart.

I started a business 15 years ago to help my family financially. My heart was to serve my family while serving others. And over the years, it became very clear that the work I was doing was touching other people‘s hearts in ways I couldn’t have imagined or orchestrated. God has stepped in and taken the reins more times than I can count and every time the blessings overflow in ways that are hard to articulate.

As the years go by, life changes. You enter new stages and leave other stages behind. Our son turns 23 tomorrow and he doesn’t need us like he used to. I don’t have to sign things, drive him places, check on things, etc. He’s becoming a solid adult! Looking ahead it’s just me and my guy in this together and I find myself back to my original “why.” My business is going to help my husband retire and if all goes as planned, we will get to work together for the first time since we met 29 years ago!

It’s OK if your “why” changes and ebbs and flows over the years. Life never stays constant. Change is always happening. But gosh what a blessing to know that HE has been my constant. Yesterday, today, and forever … I love him.

Saturated Colors: like a gray sweatshirt that is saturated with water, the sweatshirt looks much darker than it does when it’s dry.

Muted Colors: like a damp tee that is a little bit damp and a little bit dry

Lightly Saturated Colors: very little color, like a white napkin after you wipe a little bit of frosting off of your mouth. Is cake your favorite too? What are we even doing in life if we don’t use cake for solid examples?

📣 Shout out to all the spouses, kids, neighbors, significant others and complete strangers who help you get your quilt pictures.

It’s not a fun task or easy task when it’s zero degrees or 108 degrees. Or when it’s windy or when someone sweaty, tired, or cranky.

But my beloved is *all in* to help me with my business goals … even if he has a few choice words about the quilt photography process. 🤣 I’ve tried to explain that I’m not the only one who is picky about the lighting, the angles, if the quilt is straight and taught, if there is a random object in the background, if shoes are showing …. But I’m going to need your comments below to reassure him that I’m not the only one!

💍 In a few weeks it will be cheers to 26 years with my guy - maybe I should ask him to hold a quilt to celebrate. I kid, I kid … I would never. I mean unless of course the cover quilt for my next pattern is done by then. 🤣🤣🤣

Patterns sometimes take a village to get from concept to sale-ready. So grateful for my village!

@itoldyousew managed to quilt this beauty in record time (no seriously … RECORD TIME) using the most delightful Snowy Baubles panto by @thequiltingmill. The texture is an absolute DREAM! Barbie continues to create the most lovely pantographs that make my creative heart so happy!

@sarahhuechteman did the deepest of deep dives to ensure all my math was correct, the labeling made sense, and she even made a sample (also in record time) using a Cozy Wonderland Charm Pack and it’s SO DANG CUTE!

Slow. Accepting when my body needs to recover isn’t something I’m great at. When a physician tells me I have to rest after medical procedures, I typically buck like a toddler when his mom tries to buckle him into the car seat. And eventually relent.

But this time was different. This time I knew it was coming. This was a scheduled time to recover and be still, and I planned accordingly! No bucking over here! Now listen, it took me *hours and hours* to embroider these quilt labels but I had the sweetest little girl who just wouldn’t leave my side and kept me company the entire time.

I’m not the best at hand embroidery. In fact I might even be a smidge below average. And I’m comfortable with that because every time I embroider I learn something new. If you’re not the best at making a quilt, it’s ok. I bet every time you make one you also learn something new.

Today I hope you have grace for yourself. I hope you can embrace imperfections and count your blessings when you’re forced to be still or feel sidelined by life’s troubles. Tomorrow is a new day!

I am extremely blessed to have pockets of friendships dotted all throughout my life, but this Nine Patch Quilt Collective friendship is uniquely special. They feel like “quilty home” to me.

We are already halfway through the week celebrating Rachel‘s Rustic Retreat block for the 2025 Sweater Weather Sampler! Gosh, time goes by way too fast. It’s been a joy, seeing quilters near and far celebrating the clever construction of this block by @sewjoyfulstudio. It is totally unique, and really fun to sew together.

All night of us truly enjoy these nine weeks with all of you! We never grow tired of seeing your blocks, but watching you all encourage each other is a gift and a joy! 🥹

If you had to sit this one out this year, you can still sign up to get all nine block patterns for one bundled price. At the conclusion of the sampler, the blocks will be sold individually only at the discretion of each designer. 🩷 If I could put my entire business on hold for a few weeks I would make a Star of Wonder king sized quilt for our bed. I’ve made approximately 7 quilts from this pattern since I released it but I still can’t get enough of it! I even find myself playing with color placement on @quilt_ink because I’m aching to make another one.

🩷 This was only the second time I have been to Quilt market in Houston, but it was filled with so many lovely conversations, meals with incredibly talented people, an invitation to a gathering of industry icons to celebrate 50 years of Moda, and late night conversations with the best roommate a girl could ask for. I connected with the people I hoped to but then was blessed with numerous interactions I never expected to have. My heart is so full and the future of Crafty Moose Quilts is filled with opportunities to grow and expand.

💛 It felt nearly impossible to get away for market for an extended weekend, but with the encouragement of Kate @duenorthhandmade I ended up going, and I will never regret it!

❤️ In every industry, there will always be people who disappoint you, rub you the wrong way, or leave you wondering “what the heck just happened?!?!” But I have to say my interactions in the quilting industry have been mostly filled with authenticity, honesty, legitimate encouragement, truths that are intended to help me grow, and sharing amongst small business owners to keep our industry alive and thriving.

Sure, market was smaller this year but the industry magic still had a steady heartbeat at the show and it filled my heart with renewed determination 💓

I wish you could hear the joy in my voice that bubbles up from the heart of the community that surrounds this yearly quilt along adventure. Did you know I have several patterns that are pre-cut friendly? Typically when a pattern is pre-cut friendly (think charm packs and layer cakes) it also means it is scrap friendly. It’s the perfect opportunity to go through that bin of beautiful scraps that you have been holding onto and make something absolutely incredible.

My next pattern is gorgeous from scraps, precuts, and from yardage and my pattern testing team is blowing me away with what they have been preparing behind the scenes.

The cover quilt version was made with yardage from Maureen Cracknell’s Marigold collection with @artgalleryfabrics This collection is so cheerful and happy with birds, plaid, butterflies, bumblebees and sunshine! ☀️ I can’t wait to show you the whole thing. 😍

I almost gave up this year. It’s true. I felt overworked and confused about how to seek out and take the next right steps for my business. I launched something big, and I didn’t have as many people show up to the party as I thought would show.

But I took a step back to reevaluate my big goals. I decided to give it everything I had to see what would happen next. I poured out my heart to some friends who are also entrepreneurs, and we all agreed that running your own business can be extremely difficult and *also* extremely rewarding.

There are so many hats to wear. I work early in the day and well into the night. I take courses to learn new things, ask people I admire for insight into how to use new software or word something just right to avoid confusion in a pattern.

I’m the Chief Marketing Officer, the accountant, the web designer, the social media manager, and I cover order fulfillment. I’m the product and supply purchaser, and both the face to the business and the behind the scenes person. I book speaking engagements and I’m the travel agent. I’m the designer and the maker and the heart behind the entire operation.

If you’re an entrepreneur you might be all of these things too and it can be so much to juggle … but it’s absolutely worth it.

Following your dream is not as easy as social media influencers try to make it look. But it’s not impossible! Anything is possible. Reach out to somebody who is also in your industry and ask for three tips to help you go from where you are today to where you want to be in one month, six months, and next year. Allow yourself to dream big! Where do you want to be in three years?

We have a little treat in Texas today. It’s August 2nd and only 79 degrees! It has me thinking about FALL Y’ALL 🍁

It’s the perfect time to start working on your Halloween projects so they are done and ready to be used come October 1st - because - ***if you can believe it*** that’s not very far away!

The Hey Betty Boo pattern is perfect for using up the scraps from previous Halloween projects, but it’s also REALLY easy to incorporate precut packs like Charm Packs, Jelly Rolls, Layer Cakes, and fat cuts (eighths or quarters).

It can make you DANCE when you nail a newish skill. 💃 Before I was part of the Nine Patch Quilt Collective I never pattern matched my backing pieces. Ever. But after watching my friends do it and asking for tips, I have now done it 4 times but this was the first time I did it without asking anyone for help. 👏 Bring on the dancing!

In my next cover quilt I’m using prints from the Marigold Collection by @maureencracknell for @artgalleryfabrics and I’m just so in love with the pinks and yellows from this collection.
