It’s day three, and I’m still not at Quilt Con! Today I’m in my Moose Studio talking about the color green… But I don’t mean green with envy!

Here’s a little vocabulary lesson, but with pictorial words instead of plain verbiage:

Saturated Colors: like a gray sweatshirt that is saturated with water, the sweatshirt looks much darker than it does when it’s dry.

Muted Colors: like a damp tee that is a little bit damp and a little bit dry

Lightly Saturated Colors: very little color, like a white napkin after you wipe a little bit of frosting off of your mouth. Is cake your favorite too? What are we even doing in life if we don’t use cake for solid examples?

Not watching the big game? Me either. But I AM thinking about all of the graduating seniors who love their sports and clubs so much that they want to snuggle up in their memories!

Just today my husband encouraged me to keep making t-shirt quilts as long as I physically can. He has seen the tears, heard the stories, and experienced the excitement about future endeavors when my customers pour their hearts out about their shirts, memories, and plans after high school. What a gift it is to be able to serve others with this talent.

📣 Shout out to all the spouses, kids, neighbors, significant others and complete strangers who help you get your quilt pictures.

It’s not a fun task or easy task when it’s zero degrees or 108 degrees. Or when it’s windy or when someone sweaty, tired, or cranky.

But my beloved is *all in* to help me with my business goals … even if he has a few choice words about the quilt photography process. 🤣 I’ve tried to explain that I’m not the only one who is picky about the lighting, the angles, if the quilt is straight and taught, if there is a random object in the background, if shoes are showing …. But I’m going to need your comments below to reassure him that I’m not the only one!

🩷🧡💛 If you’re needing a simple quilt for all of those cutie scraps you refuse to give away, Linden’s Joy is your girl! She’s flirty, she radiates your love of scraps, and she’s not hard to make! She also happens to be one of my best selling patterns because she loves to steal the show 🤩

💍 In a few weeks it will be cheers to 26 years with my guy - maybe I should ask him to hold a quilt to celebrate. I kid, I kid … I would never. I mean unless of course the cover quilt for my next pattern is done by then. 🤣🤣🤣

It took me a couple of months but I finally finished my 2025 Sweater Weather quilt! The patterns were so good for the third year in a row and I loved making each block ❤️

I ended up adding multiple borders so that the 9 beautiful blocks would rest perfectly centered on our queen size bed. And gosh these colors still make me swoon! I have loved them since I first put them together back in May!!!

But we must must must discuss this longarm quilting. @itoldyousew completely outdid herself by working to size this Braided Loose panto PERFECTLY for my quilt. Oh. My. Word. I love it SO MUCH! The texture is deliciously cozy and extra snuggly.

It took me a couple of months but I finally finished my 2025 Sweater Weather quilt! The patterns were so good for the third year in a row and I loved making each block ❤️

@itoldyousew managed to quilt this beauty in record time (no seriously … RECORD TIME) using the most delightful Snowy Baubles panto by @thequiltingmill. The texture is an absolute DREAM! Barbie continues to create the most lovely pantographs that make my creative heart so happy!

@sarahhuechteman did the deepest of deep dives to ensure all my math was correct, the labeling made sense, and she even made a sample (also in record time) using a Cozy Wonderland Charm Pack and it’s SO DANG CUTE!

Slow. Accepting when my body needs to recover isn’t something I’m great at. When a physician tells me I have to rest after medical procedures, I typically buck like a toddler when his mom tries to buckle him into the car seat. And eventually relent.

But this time was different. This time I knew it was coming. This was a scheduled time to recover and be still, and I planned accordingly! No bucking over here! Now listen, it took me *hours and hours* to embroider these quilt labels but I had the sweetest little girl who just wouldn’t leave my side and kept me company the entire time.

I’m not the best at hand embroidery. In fact I might even be a smidge below average. And I’m comfortable with that because every time I embroider I learn something new. If you’re not the best at making a quilt, it’s ok. I bet every time you make one you also learn something new.

Today I hope you have grace for yourself. I hope you can embrace imperfections and count your blessings when you’re forced to be still or feel sidelined by life’s troubles. Tomorrow is a new day!

🌲 The mix and match version of my Stargrove pattern is so easy to work with! You just need a stack of dark fabrics and a stack of light fabrics. You can get more from 1/3 yard cuts than you can from a Fat Quarter but either can be used. It’s really very simple!

⭐️The contrast between the two stacks of fabrics is what gives this quilt dimension and pizazz.

📸 Not sure if your fabrics have enough contrast? Take a black and white photo of the fabrics side by side. Do they look the same in the photo or is one visibly darker than the other? If they appear the same, you don’t have enough contrast and will lose the trees and stars when you piece your blocks.

🏠 I can’t think of a better way to end the Sampler this year than to celebrate what feels like home to each of us. Megan of @quilt_scouts is wrapping up the 2025 Sampler with the most adorable little house block pattern and you’re going to thoroughly enjoy the wealth of knowledge you will soak up from Megs!

I am extremely blessed to have pockets of friendships dotted all throughout my life, but this Nine Patch Quilt Collective friendship is uniquely special. They feel like “quilty home” to me.

All 9 of us started out with basic pattern writing knowledge when we first met, and all 9 of us have grown *exponentially* with our skill sets and knowledge of the industry as a whole. When I have questions or need advice about something in my business, this gaggle of gal pals is the first place I turn. What a JOY it is to celebrate each of them and all the incredible things they do in their day jobs, home lives, and quilty businesses. Each week when I gab about how lovely each designer is, I really mean it! It’s not just fluff 🩷🧡💛
