Quilt Kit Tools

Create quilt kits from patterns by Crafty Moose Quilts by following these simple steps:

  1. MOCK UP: Create a mock up on the Quilt Ink website.

    1. Watch the HOW TO video before you begin.

    2. Upload swatches of upcoming fabric collections you hope to order.

    3. Play with the swatches until you achieve a color balance your customers will love.

    4. Export the mock up image for use in your kits, for advertising, and for your website listing.

    5. Export the Full Page document and use it as a "recipe card" for your staff when cutting kits.

  2. SPREADSHEET: Utilize the free quilt kit spreadsheets (coming soon) to plan your quilt kits ahead of time.  Use the spreadsheets to gather the following data:

    1. SKUs you need to order and how many of each bolt.

    2. Your cost, list price, your profit per kit.

  3. ORDER THE FABRIC AND PATTERNS: Use the data from the spreadsheet to order the fabrics and patterns needed to create the kits.

  4. CREATE WEB LISTING FOR PRE-ORDERS: Use the downloaded image from Quilt Ink to create your web listing. Generate a SKU to be used alongside the mock up image for in-store ordering.

  5. CUT AND LABEL THE FABRIC: Use the "Full Page" print out from Quilt Ink as a recipe to cut and label all of the fabrics needed for the kits.

  6. PRINT THE IMAGE: Download the mock up image from Quilt Ink, print, and stack on top of the fabrics.

  7. ADD THE PATTERN TO FINAL KIT:  The kit might not immediately be made into a quilt by customers and it's helpful to them 1, 3, 12 months later to have the fabric labeled to match the pattern, a photo of the mock up, and the actual pattern.

Trade Show Tips

Shop owners sometimes skid sideways onto trade show floors just happy they finally made it out the door! Then there are others who have been packed for two weeks and already have their routes mapped out. No matter if you have list-in-hand or you're still problem solving shop issues as you walk onto the show floor, here are some tips that will help you get the most out of your show experience:

  1. PATTERNS + FABRIC: Pair up quilt patterns with new fabric collections while you're at the show. Bring excitement to your shop by pairing new(to you) patterns to make with upcoming fabric collections that speak to your customer base.

  2. TALK TO DESIGNERS: If you have an opportunity to talk to a pattern designer, take it! They will have helpful tips on what kinds of fabrics work well with their designs and even some helpful pointers regarding contrasting fabrics, blending fabrics, big prints, small prints, solids, saturation and more!

  3. ASK FOR SHOW SPECIALS: Some pattern designers may offer show specials including free shipping, BOGO, or the ability to purchase a single pattern so you can use that pattern to shop for fabrics from major distributors.

  4. JOIN EMAIL LISTS: I know, I know!  I get a ton of emails too - but - there are certain people/places who offer solid products and services and I *always* read those emails. If you find a pattern designer whose style you really like, get on his or her email list to ensure you're in the know when new patterns are coming out.

  5. VISIT THE MODA BOOTH: Moda has an incredible system in place with "sell sheets" that show you exactly what you need to purchase in order to create quilt kits from patterns they showcase. You can order the fabric AND the patterns in one place!
