🌲 The mix and match version of my Stargrove pattern is so easy to work with! You just need a stack of dark fabrics and a stack of light fabrics. You can get more from 1/3 yard cuts than you can from a Fat Quarter but either can be used. It’s really very simple!

⭐️The contrast between the two stacks of fabrics is what gives this quilt dimension and pizazz.

📸 Not sure if your fabrics have enough contrast? Take a black and white photo of the fabrics side by side. Do they look the same in the photo or is one visibly darker than the other? If they appear the same, you don’t have enough contrast and will lose the trees and stars when you piece your blocks.

🏠 I can’t think of a better way to end the Sampler this year than to celebrate what feels like home to each of us. Megan of @quilt_scouts is wrapping up the 2025 Sampler with the most adorable little house block pattern and you’re going to thoroughly enjoy the wealth of knowledge you will soak up from Megs!

I am extremely blessed to have pockets of friendships dotted all throughout my life, but this Nine Patch Quilt Collective friendship is uniquely special. They feel like “quilty home” to me.

All 9 of us started out with basic pattern writing knowledge when we first met, and all 9 of us have grown *exponentially* with our skill sets and knowledge of the industry as a whole. When I have questions or need advice about something in my business, this gaggle of gal pals is the first place I turn. What a JOY it is to celebrate each of them and all the incredible things they do in their day jobs, home lives, and quilty businesses. Each week when I gab about how lovely each designer is, I really mean it! It’s not just fluff 🩷🧡💛

We are already halfway through the week celebrating Rachel‘s Rustic Retreat block for the 2025 Sweater Weather Sampler! Gosh, time goes by way too fast. It’s been a joy, seeing quilters near and far celebrating the clever construction of this block by @sewjoyfulstudio. It is totally unique, and really fun to sew together.

All night of us truly enjoy these nine weeks with all of you! We never grow tired of seeing your blocks, but watching you all encourage each other is a gift and a joy! 🥹

If you had to sit this one out this year, you can still sign up to get all nine block patterns for one bundled price. At the conclusion of the sampler, the blocks will be sold individually only at the discretion of each designer. There are moments in time I wish I could bottle up so that I could take a sip of past grit, strength, and the absolute peace found in the beauty of nature. My Ascend block for the Sweater Weather Sampler is a reminder that we can do hard things … all of us. And what’s hard for one might not be hard for others but we ALL have our own difficulties to face.

My husband and I still daydream about completing the entire AT (Appalachian Trail) at some point in our lives. I usually choose this AT coffee mug when I find myself daydreaming about being on a trail somewhere, like this Alum Cave trail to Mt. LeConte. It’s good to dream and set big scary goals for yourself. It’s good to find that balance between grit and grace. Don’t let your brain trick you into thinking you can’t overcome hard things … you can indeed overcome hard things.

I don’t know what you’re facing today, but I’m rooting for you!

🩷 This was only the second time I have been to Quilt market in Houston, but it was filled with so many lovely conversations, meals with incredibly talented people, an invitation to a gathering of industry icons to celebrate 50 years of Moda, and late night conversations with the best roommate a girl could ask for. I connected with the people I hoped to but then was blessed with numerous interactions I never expected to have. My heart is so full and the future of Crafty Moose Quilts is filled with opportunities to grow and expand.

💛 It felt nearly impossible to get away for market for an extended weekend, but with the encouragement of Kate @duenorthhandmade I ended up going, and I will never regret it!

❤️ In every industry, there will always be people who disappoint you, rub you the wrong way, or leave you wondering “what the heck just happened?!?!” But I have to say my interactions in the quilting industry have been mostly filled with authenticity, honesty, legitimate encouragement, truths that are intended to help me grow, and sharing amongst small business owners to keep our industry alive and thriving.

Sure, market was smaller this year but the industry magic still had a steady heartbeat at the show and it filled my heart with renewed determination 💓

Victoria has a knack for pulling together beautiful fabrics and in this case she used prints by @prettyplease.mx from her Wandering collection. I am so in love with her version of my Oh Ryan pattern! My eye wanders just like the fabric collection suggests.

Victoria helped me problem solve the fat quarter version of this pattern. She’s an incredible pattern tester who not only makes beautiful things but also gives such helpful feedback! She makes my patterns the best they can be so that obstacles are removed when you buy my patterns.

The Sparkle Blossom version of my Star of Wonder pattern has been selling like hotcakes lately and I FINALLY had the opportunity to make one for myself. And I’m so glad I did because I’m so in love with this quilt!

It has several of my favorite colors paired together - and - it recently went on a 12 mile trek with me to the top of a mountain which happens to be a very special place for me and my husband. 🩷🧡💛

If we only surrounded ourselves with people who are exactly like us, life would be so boring. Dana is the yin to my yang, the black to my white, the hot to my cold. She’s the “this will quilt out” to my “oh no! My points don’t match!” She reminds me to run with it instead of getting caught up in too many details. But Dana is ALSO the queen of clarity. When we get off track she’s the champion of clear and concise direction.

When it comes to design, Dana and I couldn’t have brains more differently built. I absolutely love how she continually pushes me outside of my comfort zone and says “trust the process.”

Her Forest Prism block is absolutely brilliant. When I first “read” through her pattern — AKA looked at each diagram for us visual learners — I was completely WOWED and couldn’t wait to make her block.

Having supportive people in my life isn’t the only reason I’ve been successful but it’s definitely a BIG part of the secret formula.

This Stargrove quilt is a family favorite and was made using the Fat Quarter mix and match version. All you need is a stack of light colored fat quarters and a stack of darker colored fat quarters that contrast with your light stack and you’re READY to make this quilt!

1. From yardage (like the cover)
2. Semi-Scrappy (a mix of yardage and FQs)
3. Scrappy (FQ version)

Two different blocks are alternated throughout the quilt. The unexpected secondary designs keep your eye moving like a game of hidden treasure!

After I saw what Jenn was working on for her pattern test of my Oh Ryan quilt, I went back to the drawing board. I wanted to be sure to include directions for the semi-scrappy look that she was achieving in her quilt because I absolutely love the way it looks!

The whole reason I utilize pattern testers is because I truly value their input, insight, and creativity while they are testing my directions, math and diagrams. This version of my Oh Ryan pattern is the perfect example of how much value pattern testers bring to patterns.

Jenn is an absolute joy. I mean that! Even while she is facing difficult things in her own life, it seems she is constantly encouraging me. I cherish her friendship for 100 different reasons. 🩷🧡💛

Some day I hope to meet Melissa of @quiltingabovetheclouds in person. She is the kindest and loveliest human with a big heart for others.

Melissa had unexpected life issues arise after saying yes to testing my Oh Ryan pattern and even though I encouraged her to take it off her plate altogether …. I give you Melissa’s scrappy version of my Oh Ryan pattern. (That’s right, she made it anyway!) It’s delightfully scrappy and fun with all of those happy prints from the Capri collection by @katarinaroccella for @artgalleryfabrics

This crafty lady has an incredible knack for pairing fun fabrics together to make scrappy JOY. Have you seen her version of my Stargrove quilt!? Good gracious it’s beautiful!!!

Quilts on walls? Yes please! When Nichole @its.sew.nichole told me she had a space above her sofa that would be perfect for her Oh Ryan quilt she was already off and running. She knew exactly what colors she wanted to use and her color placement within the quilt is spectacular!

Nichole chose to make the yardage version of Oh Ryan in shades of green with one tiny pop of pink and one lovely striped fabric (also in green) by Sharon Holland. I couldn’t help but wonder how it would look in a throw size quilt so I used Quilt Ink to mock it up in her fabrics …. And WOW! Good gracious, it’s beautiful!

Can y’all believe Nichole hasn’t been quilting very long? Give this girl all the love and encouragement because the quilts she makes are BEAUTIMOOSE! So thankful to have her on my pattern testing team!

They are little for such a short amount of time. Every time I make a baby sized quilt my heart longs to go back to rocking my baby to sleep, singing silly songs while he giggles back to me, and zipping him into his footie jammies with the little bears on the feet. It just goes by so fast.

My bestie got us a quilt with his name on it when he was a little guy and I still have it. My prayer is that the Oh Ryan pattern will be the one you reach for to make such special gifts for the new parents around you. It’s just the sweetest pattern, y’all.

I ended up choosing the Gingerheart panto for this baby sized sample and it’s just so dang sweet! I can’t wait to show you more!
