Betty Boo

Why the name Betty?

When I was little, there was an older couple who lived across the street from us and we had a mutual adoration for each other.  Betty Sue would make special bar desserts, let me come play with all the toys they had for their grandkids, and in general acted like a second grandmother to me.

Her husband Carol had an old bowling ball and legit bowling pins. He used to set them up for me outside so we could “practice bowling” together. He made me feel like I was the only kid that mattered to him with the way he shared his love of bowling in my front yard! While we bowled, Betty Sue could be found tinkering in her garden, riding her bike with the big basket on the front, or standing in her kitchen window hollering out to me to tell me what kinds of goodies she was baking that day. I admit I was jealous when their actual grandkids would come in town because they got all the attention I had grown to love!

I remember how much of a treat it was to be invited into their quiet little home that was always perfectly clean and tidy.  When Carol experienced a heart attack and tragically passed away, I was devastated. It was the first loss I had experienced.  I was far too young to truly understand the impact that substantial loss had on Betty Sue but do you know what she did? She continued to dote on me, feed me, and tell me stories about her beloved even while she grieved.

As I grew, got married, and had my own child, Betty Sue and I became penpals of sorts. She went on to embrace country dancing if you can believe it! She would send me pictures of her and her dance partners all gussied up in their western wear. Not too long before she passed, she sent me a hand drawn picture I had made for her after Carol passed away (I had to have been about 4 or 5 years old at the time). She had held onto that picture for nearly 25 years!

The pure JOY that radiated from Betty Sue is neatly woven into this Halloween pattern. I pray it helps you feel like a kid again just like I do when I think of Betty Sue and Carol Strunk from 28th Avenue in Iowa. They richly impacted me as a child and I'd like to think they helped to shape who I am today.

Betty is the life of the party and the queen of Halloween fun! Betty’s gathered her three best ghoul-friends—Bunny Boo, Bailey Boo, and Birdie Boo—for a spooky soirée you won’t want to miss.

🍬 Betty has a serious sweet tooth (we’re talking Smarties, Tootsie Roll Pops, and Nerds), her bow is always perfectly in place, and she somehow manages to be mid-sentence in every single group photo. Classic Betty.

👻 She’s your go-to gal for planning girls’ night out and is just as good at listening as she is at leading the charge. And listen, EVERYONE is invited to Betty's party! She never leaves anyone out.

📍You’ll find Betty featured in both throw-size quilts, but the pattern is super versatile—you can also stitch up a single ghost block for a pillow, tote, or wall hanging to add a little boo-tiful flair wherever you like!

Bunny Boo

Why the name Bunny?

When I was a teenager, I drove about 40 minutes one-way to get to my high school in Dallas. There is a set of train tracks that notoriously (and regularly) made several of us late for school. The school's attendance receptionist's name was … you guessed it, Bunny!

Bunny Ridenour left a lasting impression on me.  She was a no-nonsense lady who also had a heart of pure gold.  When those of us who had been stuck at those train tracks would file in with panic-stricken looks on our faces she would say sternly, “Now you KNOW that train is going to come through every morning at about the same time.  And you KNOW if that if you left your houses earlier you could all beat that train. Every one of you is tardy.  (Enter a long and very silent pause as she made eye contact with each one of us while we sweat through our clothes from nervousness) And I'll excuse it THIS time.”

Bunny was also the fill in school nurse sometimes and despite her tough outer shell, she had the sweetest most motherly kindness about her when we didn't feel well.

So behind the “not having it” expression on Bunny Boo's ghostly face, I assure you there's an endearing heart in there that loves to serve others. Cheers to the good ones in education whose names we will never forget no matter how old we get.

🧐 She may be quiet, but don’t let that fool you—Bunny is sharp, steady, and always one step ahead. She’s the one with the plan when things get sticky. She reads everything, questions everything, and could probably solve a true crime before the second episode drops.

🩷 Bunny doesn’t meddle—she waits with quiet confidence, like a book open to the right page. But the moment you ask, her knowledge flows fast and sure, like Niagara Falls with perfect timing.

📕 Her vibe? Leisurely walks in the woods, cozy nights with a book, and murder mystery podcasts playing on loop.

🎃 Halloween? Oh, she goes full dry humor. She’s loves costumes that make you think—like a walking Periodic Table pun. Classic Bunny.

📍Where to find her: Bunny Boo stars in both throw-size versions of the Hey Betty Boo quilt—but if you just need a little hint of her haunting charm, you can stitch her up solo for a pillow, tote, or wall hanging. Perfect for adding a sweet touch to your décor.

Bailey Boo from the Hey Betty Boo pattern by Crafty Moose Quilts
Bailey Boo

Why the name Bailey?

A dear friend has a son named Bailey and boy has he been through it in life. It's been a joy to see him thriving in his late 20's. This friend of mine came along side me when my own son was facing hardship that I didn't know how to navigate.

Having someone vulnerable enough to share the good, the bad, and the really hard stuff in an effort to help guide you through your own hardships is such a beautiful thing. Bailey Boo is a shout out to the kind of friendship that breathes life into the hardest moments and gives you hope for healing.

🗣️ She’s loud, she’s lively, and her laugh? You’ll hear it before you see her. Bailey’s been getting shushed since elementary school—and she still hasn’t figured out how to whisper.

💚 Don’t be fooled by her volume—Bailey’s heart is even bigger. She’s the first to show up in a crisis (even if she’s been escorted out of more than one hospital for, ahem, taking charge of the situation).

📣 She’s your fiercest cheerleader, the one who celebrates your wins like they’re her own. Bailey’s a go-getter, a can’t-sit-still, always-brainstorming kind of ghost. Even on her “days off,” she’s dreaming up new ideas and chasing the next adventure.

👻 When Halloween hits, Bailey goes all out. Think top-tier candy, jaw-dropping decorations, and full-on costume transformations. (One year she was Moana—and yes, she sang every song from the porch like she was on Broadway.)

📍Where to find her:
Everywhere. Seriously. Bailey Boo appears in the small throw, large throw, and table runner versions of the Hey Betty Boo pattern. She also makes a great statement as a pillow, tote, or wall hanging if you’re just looking for a burst of her bold spirit.

Birdie Boo from the Hey Betty Boo pattern by Crafty Moose Quilts
Birdie Boo

Birdie is an absolute joy to be around—friendly, funny, and full of heart. She wears her emotions proudly, going from giggles to tears in the blink of an eye. What you see is what you get with Birdie, and that’s what makes her so lovable.

Why the name Birdie?

Do you have core memories from your youth that seem to have left a lasting impression? When I was in high school several of my best friends were in the musical “Bye Bye Birdie." I was the softball athlete in the audience smiling proudly watching my friends absolutely killing it on the stage and having the time of their lives. I smiled so big the entire night that my face hurt by the end.  So when I was working on this pattern and searching my brain for B-names “Birdie” was a no brainer!

Enjoy this "Telephone Hour" song from the musical that sometimes plays on repeat in my head for no reason at all.

🍰 Birdie is a fan of all things cozy and comforting: buttercream frosting, surprise notes or gifts, and a plate full of steak and potatoes. She fits in with everyone—planning parties with Betty, pondering life with Bunny, and cracking up with Bailey. But she also shines on her own, singing while she works and always believing the best in others.

👻 When Halloween rolls around, Birdie is usually last to pick a costume—but first to snap the perfect photo of her Boo Crew’s clever costumes!

📍Where to find her:
Birdie is tucked sweetly into the Small and Large Throws and she’s perfectly content to watch the others shine in the Table Runner.
