Split Decision: Hearty is a pattern design that has been living in my digital sketchbook for a while now, and I am so excited to finally start sharing pieces of this design journey with you. While I am not quite ready to show the quilt itself just yet, today is all about the fabric (which is usually our favorite part anyway, right!?).
One of the driving forces behind Split Decision: Hearty was the desire to let fabric shine. The diagonally split hearts were intentionally designed to work beautifully with larger scale prints, directional fabrics, and those special fat quarters that are just too pretty to cut into tiny pieces. This pattern invites color, contrast, and personality, and fabric selection plays a huge role in the final look.
For the throw size version of Split Decision: Hearty, Moda Fabrics was kind enough to send me all of the fabric I needed. I will be sewing with prints from the Trinketry collection by Melody Miller for Ruby Star Society. I will only have (4) Fat Quarter bundles available of this collection and you can preorder now before they even arrive in my shop!
If you love bright, playful fabrics that feel a little nostalgic and a lot joyful, this collection delivers. Trinketry is filled with charming details and whimsical motifs that feel right at home inside the heart blocks. Each heart in Split Decision: Hearty is made from two coordinating fabrics, which opens the door for so many creative combinations.
In addition to the Moda palette, I am also pulling together a fabric palette using Art Gallery Fabrics for the lap size version of Split Decision: Hearty. Art Gallery Fabrics was so kind to send me all the fabric I need, and this palette is filled to the brim with jewel tones paired with gorgeous, light hearted pinks. These fabrics are from the Starling collection by the ever talented Maureen Cracknell, and they bring a softer, romantic energy to the design while still offering plenty of contrast and depth.
I have several fat quarter bundles of the entire Starling collection available in my shop. The colors are so rich and beautiful, these palette mockups absolutely do not do them justice!
I also chose to pair these fabrics with the incredibly soft and snuggly Highlands Flannel by Art Gallery Fabrics. My GOODNESS it's so soft! I couldn't stop touching the fabric when I opened the box.
Be on the lookout for more updates about this pattern, these fabrics, AND my testing team! They never fail with their incredible and unique fabric selections. Which palette speaks to you!?!? I'd love to know!
