Texas is serving up the perfect cozy day! It’s 73° and drizzling while I sip coffee and dream of Fall quilting. Normally I’m taking Sweater Weather Sampler photos in full summer sweat, but not this year! 🍂✨

It feels like the perfect time to share the fabrics I’ll be using for my own Sampler quilt. These warm, cozy colors are all from Art Gallery Fabrics, and I’ll be making the dark version. I also have kits available on my website. They do sell quickly, so don’t wait if you see one you love!

Quilts on walls? Yes please! When Nichole @its.sew.nichole told me she had a space above her sofa that would be perfect for her Oh Ryan quilt she was already off and running. She knew exactly what colors she wanted to use and her color placement within the quilt is spectacular!

Nichole chose to make the yardage version of Oh Ryan in shades of green with one tiny pop of pink and one lovely striped fabric (also in green) by Sharon Holland. I couldn’t help but wonder how it would look in a throw size quilt so I used Quilt Ink to mock it up in her fabrics …. And WOW! Good gracious, it’s beautiful!

Can y’all believe Nichole hasn’t been quilting very long? Give this girl all the love and encouragement because the quilts she makes are BEAUTIMOOSE! So thankful to have her on my pattern testing team!

They are little for such a short amount of time. Every time I make a baby sized quilt my heart longs to go back to rocking my baby to sleep, singing silly songs while he giggles back to me, and zipping him into his footie jammies with the little bears on the feet. It just goes by so fast.

My bestie got us a quilt with his name on it when he was a little guy and I still have it. My prayer is that the Oh Ryan pattern will be the one you reach for to make such special gifts for the new parents around you. It’s just the sweetest pattern, y’all.

I ended up choosing the Gingerheart panto for this baby sized sample and it’s just so dang sweet! I can’t wait to show you more!

Did you know I have several patterns that are pre-cut friendly? Typically when a pattern is pre-cut friendly (think charm packs and layer cakes) it also means it is scrap friendly. It’s the perfect opportunity to go through that bin of beautiful scraps that you have been holding onto and make something absolutely incredible.

My next pattern is gorgeous from scraps, precuts, and from yardage and my pattern testing team is blowing me away with what they have been preparing behind the scenes.

The cover quilt version was made with yardage from Maureen Cracknell’s Marigold collection with @artgalleryfabrics This collection is so cheerful and happy with birds, plaid, butterflies, bumblebees and sunshine! ☀️ I can’t wait to show you the whole thing. 😍

Here’s your reminder to schedule that time and to make room for breaks. Gosh it can be so hard to make space or even to find something that fits your budget, but it’s worth it every time.

I almost gave up this year. It’s true. I felt overworked and confused about how to seek out and take the next right steps for my business. I launched something big, and I didn’t have as many people show up to the party as I thought would show.

But I took a step back to reevaluate my big goals. I decided to give it everything I had to see what would happen next. I poured out my heart to some friends who are also entrepreneurs, and we all agreed that running your own business can be extremely difficult and *also* extremely rewarding.

There are so many hats to wear. I work early in the day and well into the night. I take courses to learn new things, ask people I admire for insight into how to use new software or word something just right to avoid confusion in a pattern.

I’m the Chief Marketing Officer, the accountant, the web designer, the social media manager, and I cover order fulfillment. I’m the product and supply purchaser, and both the face to the business and the behind the scenes person. I book speaking engagements and I’m the travel agent. I’m the designer and the maker and the heart behind the entire operation.

If you’re an entrepreneur you might be all of these things too and it can be so much to juggle … but it’s absolutely worth it.

Following your dream is not as easy as social media influencers try to make it look. But it’s not impossible! Anything is possible. Reach out to somebody who is also in your industry and ask for three tips to help you go from where you are today to where you want to be in one month, six months, and next year. Allow yourself to dream big! Where do you want to be in three years?

Slow. It’s not a word that describes my schedule very often - and that’s usually by my own doing so I don’t have room to complain. Even though I have several pressing projects in my queue I was eager to finally put together this quilt using my Star of Wonder pattern.

I have had it mocked up for almost a year, I cut the fabric from the bolts back in March, I cut the pieces in May, and I finally put it together this week. gosh, I love this pattern so much. I love the way the built-in movement makes your eye travel across the quilt. I love the opportunity to use multiple fabrics. I love the simple border that grounds the colors and balances everything out. The darker blue and orange fabrics feel like gorgeous summer sunsets and the airy prints feel like dewy mornings.

This morning I wish so badly it was already quilted because I could really get after a hot cup of coffee under summery Quilt today!

In fact, I really don’t have any summer quilts… But I am picking up one today from @randallquilting! Matt did an absolutely incredible job on my next pattern cover Quilt! I purposefully chose happy summer prints by @maureencracknell and it most definitely is going to bring some joy into my life! Gosh, I can’t wait to show it to you. ⭐️ 🐝 ⭐️ 🐦 ⭐️

We have a little treat in Texas today. It’s August 2nd and only 79 degrees! It has me thinking about FALL Y’ALL 🍁

It’s the perfect time to start working on your Halloween projects so they are done and ready to be used come October 1st - because - ***if you can believe it*** that’s not very far away!

The Hey Betty Boo pattern is perfect for using up the scraps from previous Halloween projects, but it’s also REALLY easy to incorporate precut packs like Charm Packs, Jelly Rolls, Layer Cakes, and fat cuts (eighths or quarters).

Learning new skills is vital for the health of your brain. It boosts cognitive function, confidence, memory and in general it stimulates the brain. But you know what else it can do?

It can make you DANCE when you nail a newish skill. 💃 Before I was part of the Nine Patch Quilt Collective I never pattern matched my backing pieces. Ever. But after watching my friends do it and asking for tips, I have now done it 4 times but this was the first time I did it without asking anyone for help. 👏 Bring on the dancing!

In my next cover quilt I’m using prints from the Marigold Collection by @maureencracknell for @artgalleryfabrics and I’m just so in love with the pinks and yellows from this collection. The fabric shown here is called Bumble Blush and it’s available in my shop, along with several others from this collection.

✨Simplicity ✨ is one of my favorite looks. There’s no fuss, it feels calming, cozy and centering. Brie’s @willowgrovegoods table runner version of my Stargrove pattern is beautifully simple and wonderfully warm with these wovens from @fableism.

Brie even used the extra HSTs method from the pattern to make secondary blocks that she will use on the back side of her runner! Her version reminds me of evergreen trees covered in snow with Christmas lights glowing in the distance. Just lovely!

Brie has such a calming presence about her and I love that her work is a reflection of her personality. She’s a go-getter too because with 3 littles, she takes her little bits of sewing time and somehow manages to double her productivity. 🤩 She even managed to squeak out a t-shirt quilt in the middle of the Stargrove testing period!

So grateful she said yes to testing Stargrove because I just love what she made! Simply gorgeous!

One of the most rewarding things about being a pattern designer is seeing quilters take the core structure of your pattern and turn it into something absolutely breathtaking. That’s exactly what Jenn @itoldyousew did with her scrappy mix-and-match version of my Stargrove pattern. She used such a fun mix of Ruby Star fabrics by @jenhewett and some assorted pieces by @modafabrics and the result is scrappy snuggly GOODNESS.

Jenn let me photograph her quilt and I had a really hard time being selective because every single block was incredible. She paired her contrasting fabrics beautifully to make every star and every tree stand out.

The excitement that Jen brings to the table is palpable. As a pattern tester, she is all in to make sure the pattern makes sense and she’s all in to hype up the entire pattern tester chat with her positive comments. I’ve been saving this Nutmeg collection by BasicGrey for Moda for ages — just waiting for the right pattern to do it justice. I finally paired it with some AGF solids and made the scrappy mix + match version of Stargrove, and ohhh my goodness… it was worth the wait. 🍂✨

From the first cut to the final stitch, this quilt brought me so much joy. It reminded me how powerful it is to sew with fabrics you really love. The colors, the textures, the way everything played together — I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.

Full disclosure— I some of my fabrics didn’t have enough contrast and I had to take apart about 7 blocks! Sooo much better after the glam up.

With her fabric pull I can almost taste the popsicles, smell the sweet nectar, and see the towering pines around me. She chose to make the color block version (alternating background colors) and the result is simply darling!

When I set out to start writing patterns I didn’t realize I would have strangers jump right in to support me, I didn’t know much about the kindness of the testing community within the quilting community.

Nor did I ever imagine one of my biggest supporters would live in Australia! 🇦🇺 But here we are with Victoria who has been with me since the beginning! I love hearing about her life in another country and I LOVE seeing what she makes. She’s so talented and always so helpful!

When Dana ordered some AGF solids from me for her Stargrove test, my jaw dropped as I pulled all the bolts together. The colors she curated for her test quilt took my breath away before I even saw her mock up in @quilt_ink ! This is the ultimate nature-lover’s quilt palette! It makes me ache to go hiking with my husband. 🏔️

Her scrappy mix and match version of my Stargrove pattern didn’t just floor *me* but her husband has requested she keep making more blocks for a bed size finish! AND, three shops now carry Stargrove kits in Dana’s colors! She’s pretty much wowing the interwebs single-handedly.

Dana has become a confidant and sweet friend to me over the past several months. We had a private conversation in which we realized we had SO much in common! The internet blows me away sometimes, I have met so many incredible humans who are kind, compassionate, funny, and are giving life all they have to give … no holds barred. Cathy chose a mix of beautiful floral prints from her favorite @artgalleryfabrics designer, @amysinibaldi, and the result is spectacular in her single background version of my Stargrove pattern.

The calming greens in her palette make me want to enjoy a lazy picnic outside amongst the bright summer flower blooms. I can picture the lush green grass and the pink geraniums surrounded by pops of color from snapdragons and gladiolus. I can almost hear the bees 🐝 humming and the birds singing!

I never would have pulled these fabrics together myself and I’m so glad that Cathy did because she so beautifully showcased the versatility of the Stargrove pattern!

Are you saving your good fabric? I was too. That’s until I realized I could use my big and beautiful Nutmeg fat quarter tower for the mix and match version of my next pattern. I am in LOVE with this one. It was absolutely worth it to cut into those fabrics!

Stargrove has 3 completely different looks all within ONE pattern.

1️⃣ The cover quilt is made using the single background option. @gatesmountainquilter @willowgrovegoods and @yogaandquilts also used a single color background but their quilts look COMPLETELY different than the cover quilt!

2️⃣ The second option uses an alternating background color. Both @a_stitch_is_a_stitch and @vpkcreates chose this option and the results are stunning!

3️⃣ The mix and match version is for all of my scrappy quilt loving friends. You can either use fat quarters or yardage to achieve this snuggly scrappy look. A fresh needle glides through your fabric silently. 🤫 Some quilters even swap out needles between every single project! 🧵 Your machine (and your fabric) will thank you for a fresh, sharp needle.

Story time! My mom is the queen of all things sewing and she used to make clothes for us when we were kids. She even made alllll the bridesmaid dresses for my sister’s wedding in 1995! 😳When my sisters and I all had kids, mom carried on the tradition of clothes making. She made her grandkids pajamas with her own label that read “Gramma Jammas.”

I LOVE the feel of @artgalleryfabrics but listen, sewing clothes has been on my bingo card exactly zero times in the 48 years I’ve been on this earth … until now. My mom spent HOURS with me last week teaching me how to read clothing patterns, how to properly cut the pieces, how to cut the fabric, surge the edges, and even alter things that didn’t fit right.

I didn’t get to finish them when I was with her but today I finished them and I’m SEW in love! Thank you mom for teaching me another life skill!

I had an opportunity to make two sample blocks for my Star of Wonder pattern using a curated bundle of Art Gallery Fabrics. While I am so glad to have these two blocks, I am also so sad… just so horribly sad that I don’t have time to make the entire quilt this week!

I had an opportunity to make two sample blocks for my Star of Wonder pattern using a curated bundle of Art Gallery Fabrics. While I am so glad to have these two blocks, I am also so sad… just so horribly sad that I don’t have time to make the entire quilt this week!

I have zero regrets about cutting up perfectly good t-shirts.

Listen, every time we pull out our son’s 2021 grad quilt we immediately RUN down memory lane together. We remember the incessant Texas heat when they won a competition. We challenge each other to remember the choreography. We laugh about the time the ENTIRE BAND got sick but they pushed themselves like the champs they were. We remember the hard times too … so many tears, hardships, frustrations… and we celebrate the maturity and growth that have come since those years.

OH MY HEAVENS!

It’s so rare that I ever win anything so you can imagine my over-the-top excitement when I heard from Abby of @abbymaed that I won a custom quilt clapper made by none other than Chris from @modern_american_vintage

This is no off-the-shelf product. This is a handmade item with each tiny piece cut by hand. No laser cutters were used in the making of this product!

The sweetest cherry on top is that the inlay design is a replication of Abby’s Daisy Mae pattern! I happen to have a Daisy Mae table runner that we use daily over here - and - Abby is one of my sweetest quilty friends who I adore.
